01 / Tube Production

Plastic-Coated Steel Tube Line

Our trellises, tomato cages and obelisks start as plastic-coated steel tube. The tube is cut, punched and formed on our own lines, so tube size and colour stay consistent across an order.

Why Choose Metal Garden Trellises?

A metal trellis keeps its shape season after season. The steel tube carries the load of fruiting vines and mature roses, and the plastic coating protects it outdoors. Ø11 mm tube is used for cucumber trellises, garden trellises, tomato cages, obelisks and the umbrella rose trellis, and Ø20 mm tube for garden arch arbors.

Which trellis for which crop:

Cucumbers, beans, bitter gourd, loofah, sweet peas: U-frame or arched cucumber trellis with netting, A-frame cucumber trellis, pointed-top or dome-top garden trellis.

Tomatoes, peppers, eggplants: square, triangle or round tomato cage.

Climbing roses, clematis, rambling roses: garden obelisk with bird or sword finial, umbrella rose trellis.

Roses, wisteria and clematis over paths and entrances: garden arch arbor, round-top arch or expandable arch.

What is a tomato cage?

A tomato cage is a tiered steel frame placed around a tomato plant to hold the stems and fruit upright. YardAve makes square (3 or 4 tiers, H 106 / 138 cm), triangle (3 or 4 tiers, H 120 / 160 cm) and round (3 tiers, H 150 cm) tomato cages in green plastic-coated Ø11 mm steel tube.

What sizes are your garden arches?

The black garden arch arbor is W 120 cm × H 210 cm with a depth of 45 cm or 90 cm, the round-top arch is W 90 × D 110 × H 200 cm, and the expandable arch is W 200 × D 40 × H 240 cm, all in Ø20 mm plastic-coated steel tube.

What is a garden obelisk?

A garden obelisk is a freestanding tower-shaped support for climbing roses and clematis. Ours is black Ø11 mm plastic-coated steel tube with a Ø 30 cm ring, in 3 tiers (H 170 cm) or 4 tiers (H 190 cm), with a bird or sword finial.

What is the difference between a cucumber trellis and a tomato cage?

A cucumber trellis is an upright or A-frame support, often with netting, that vining crops such as cucumbers, beans, bitter gourd, loofah and sweet peas climb. A tomato cage is a tiered frame that surrounds a single tomato, pepper or eggplant plant and holds its stems upright.

Which trellis is best for climbing roses and clematis?

For climbing roses and clematis we supply garden obelisks with a bird or sword finial (H 170 / 190 cm), the umbrella rose trellis (H 180 cm, single or double ring) and garden arch arbors for paths and entrances.

What material are your metal garden trellises made of?

Plastic-coated steel tube in black or green: Ø11 mm for cucumber trellises, garden trellises, tomato cages, obelisks and the umbrella rose trellis, and Ø20 mm for garden arch arbors.

Do tomato plants need a cage?

Most tomato plants grow tall and heavy with fruit, so a cage or other support keeps the stems and fruit off the ground. Our square, triangle and round tomato cages are 106 to 160 cm tall to suit this.
